We just bought a baby ball python about a month ago, and almost a week ago we went to get her checked by a reptile specialist and to get her food, and she looked like she was about to shed. Her color got very dull and her eyes were covered. The specialist said that she might not eat becaue she was about to shed but to try anyways. She ate just fine, but you could tell she couldn't really see. Well, that was almost a week ago, and she STILL hasn't shed. We tried giving her a "bath" in warm water to help, but it hasn't. She is usually outside of her "hut" and on the warm side, but the past week, she has just stayed in there. I'm not sure if she's been out once! I thought that maybe she stayed in there because she couldn't see and felt safe, but i've never had a Ball Python before and i know nothing about the whole shedding process. She does have a water dish to help shed, but i don't know if this is normal, or if something's wrong. Any help??

She sounds like she's doing fine. Different snakes take different times to shed, and they even take different times per shed for the same snake.

A good rule of thumb is that it takes upwards of two weeks after they clear from going blue.

Keep her humidity up to 70% or higher (generally no more than 80%), don't handle her too much, and make sure she has things she can rub against to hook her skin in helping her shed (nothing too abrasive like pumice rocks, but pieces of drift wood are good). Double check her skin when it comes off to make sure her eye caps are on the skin as this can be a serious problem that your vet will need to take care of if they don't.

Good luck and let us know how she goes.

it just takes time- sometimes weeks- you cant do anything to help so just let nature take its course- your snake will be fine as long as it keeps eating.
