I want to safely block most of the heat coming out of the baseboard for about a 7 foot part of the baseboard heat, so the leather will not dry out.

Assuming that it is hot water baseboard there are few ways... You can remove that section completely and reconnect with pipe through the wall(behind) or floor(below). this would look the best. but requires a professional($$$).
Or.. You can remove the front cover and adjustable vent(carefully you need to put them back) then remove the aluminum fins from the copper pipe (pliers should do it) on the section behind the couch. then put foam pipe insulation over the pipe in that section( sold at hardware stores and plumbing suply's in four foot lengths according to pipe diameter (usually 1/2-3/4") then replace the vent and front cover on the baseboard and Viola your done..
Or.. You can bend a heat shield from rolled aluminum (used for roof flashing) from the wall above the baseboard to the floor in front of it,the width of the sofa leaving the ends open for the heat to escape. Ugly but efficient.
In my opinion the second solution is the best choice long term because you can always remove the insulation in the future an retain most of the heating capabilities of the baseboard if needed.
Good Luck.

You can try heat deflectors. They are plastic covers that would deflect the heat down instead of directly out toward your sofa, but I'm not sure if you can get them that long. Try Lowes or Home Depot . If all else fails and you can't close the heater vent, try covering it with aluminum foil. It won't look so pretty but it should block the heat. I hope your thermostat is not in the same room as your sofa. If you block the heat the room will be cooler and the rest of your home will be warmer.

You could construct a metal deflector that has at least 3" of clearance from the heater and is open at both ends to allow air flow.
If the heater has separate controls you can always turn it off.
What ever you do, do not block it off completely as it can over heat and cause a fire.
That would really damage your leather sofa!

Thier is no safe way to block the heat from a base board electric heater. It would be best to dissable able it or relocate the sofa.
