It seems that the Biotech industry in large part has decided to write a check to outsource research providers. I think they are (wrongly) counting on using the patent systems in various countries to protect their investment.

This means, at least for now, that Biotechnology jobs are moving from high cost markets such as Western Europe and the US to lower cost markets Eastern Europe, India and China. So if you want the job – that is where they are.

The reason this will back fire for these US and EU companies (and countries) is Asian patent infringement. Some how these companies have not been reading the news and remembering that (gasp) Chinese, Japanese, Indian interests routinely steal intellectual property. And these same supposedly advanced countries allow the piracy, because this technology is then exported back to them in lower cost goods.

Eventually, the intellectual core will shift to these other areas, and eventually the US and the EU will become low cost labor markets just like China and India. This is basic macro economics. Get thee to Bangalor.
