I think that if you wear a thong, you might as well be wearing nothing. My daughter (20) says the comparison is not even close...that thongs cover you just as much as regular panites except for the butt area.

I know all about the panty line theory, but I also think that it's more for being sexy than to get rid of panty lines. What do you all think?

TOO ALL WHO CAN'T READ: JO, MEDIA HONEY
Quit reading more into my question than I actually asked! I never said anything remotely close, that I am trying to change my daughters mind or control her decision! It's just a discussion that we had and have different opinions!

I think your daughter is right, they cover your private area but not your butt. If you wore nothing you could hurt yourself b/c of the chaffing (sp) from your pants.

I think that it's a personal choice, and I don't see wearing a thong the same thing as wearing nothing. I've worn thongs before and I did not really like them, but it is nothing like going commando. VPL are very important to avoid, and I will wear thongs some times to keep that line from appearing. I think that part of it could be for sexiness as well, I know my husband likes them!

personally, i don't wear them for any other reason than not showing my pantie line.
i know some people may not buy it, BUT have you ever put on a pair of pants of a certain material, and had two creases on you backside from you pantie line showing though??, not cute or attractive, is it??
i don't understand how people think that you wear thongs to be sexy.
how would someone even know what you are wearing underneath your clothes??
and there are plenty of sexy underwear that aren't thongs any ways!!
so i think that if you are wearing thongs to be sexy, then it is similar to wearing nothing.
but if you are actually wearing them for their intended purpose, then no, they aren't similar to wearing nothing.

about them being uncomfortable, there are thongs that are made wider, to have more coverage on your backside, without going out far enough to create a visible pantie line.
the proper name for them escapes me, but i chose to wear that style, because it is far more comfortable than say, a g-string.

i also think there are certain occasions where things are just inappropriate.
as someone stated earlier, the "jiggle" factor, no need to wear a thong with a pair of sweatpants!!

I'm sure your daughter isn't walking around wearing nothing but a thong, so she (and her thong) are covered by her clothes, so I don't understand what the problem is. Personally, I think thongs look terrible, the farthest thing from sexy. But I don't find them revealing since people are wearing clothes over them. I agree with your daughter.

I agree with you that thongs are a "sexier" option, and are totally not appropriate for young girls (they're usually the ones who use the panty line excuse anyway), but for grown women, sometimes they are necessary, and I do know a lot of women that find them more comfortable than other styles of panties (weird, i know). But I must say, I think wearing a thong is much better than wearing nothing at all.

When did it become unacceptable for people to know we are wearing panties?! I don't buy the panty line theory. And I don't buy that they cover as much. They cover your FRONT, not the underside or the back. Ok..so by wearing a thong I'm protecting my pants from my pubes? I agree about butt floss, and I disagree about comfort. I suppose those who wear thongs do get used to them eventually, but I'm with you on this one.

Personally, I think it's just damn unnatural to have something riding up your butt.

Panties are supposed to be about comfort and not a constant reminder that you've got a perma wedgie.

If you don't want pantie lines, use Boy Cut underwear for women-- you won't have lines then.

And thongs aren't sexy; who ever the hell thought of 'butt floss' as being sexy... is beyond me.

Sorry to say but your daughter is right... A thong covers up the front are, not the back so nobody can see your underwear line. Sorry...

Well personally I do wear thongs..and its not a sin or anything.
She's 20 years old and she can wear what she wants.
You are calling people out for answering your question..when the question was is wearing a thong the same as wearing nothing.
So to straight up answer your question, No, wearing a thong is not the same thing as wearing nothing.

It still covers the front so its all good, and the main reason she is probably wearing a thong is so that her underwear line is not visible
