I live near Knoxville Tennessee and I have never seen any palmetto bugs up here. That is one of the reasons I move away from Florida is because of the roaches.....gross!!
I really haven't seen BIG BUGS around here.
I have lived here for 5 years. been up in the smokey mountains many, many times too and haven't seen big bugs up there either.
Florida has BIG bugs.
It really depends on what you call a bug.
praying mantises? are they bugs to you, or is it like beetles and roaches that you are talking about?

Sure there are bugs everywhere, we all agree. But I've lived many years in Illinois and the bugs are easily controlled in and around your home. But I was in the Navy and moved around a lot.. California, Florida, Cuba, Virginia...the worst bugs ever were in Florida. I kept an immaculate home, taped the overflow holes in my sinks up, closed the drains every night, dried the sinks out so not a drop of water was in them, no dirty dishes, no food out on the counters etc....and still had giant palmettos (American Cockroach) in my home. Their droppings are so big they look like mouse poop! And they would come down my chimney and hit the metal flue and then run across the floor. And they fly at you! I hated it and moved back up north where the winter helps control bugs. Love the south in some ways, but hate that aspect of it.

I don't know about TN or KY, but here in FL, we have bugs so big that you could put saddles on them! We have flying roaches here too! Actually, they are palmetto bugs, but everybody calls them flying roaches because that's what they look like.

I lived in Tennessee for a few years and they have big bugs, cockroaches the size of tea cups (no matter where you live you will find cockroaches ewey), walking stick bugs all over (had a few in my house-one that jumped on me in the shower), spiders, its safe to safe there you will find big bugs. Not to mention snakes. Tennessee is full of copper heads and rattlers.
