Avatar the Last Airbender is an American animated cartoon. It is based on Chinese martial arts. The elements are also based on Chinese belief.

it is definately based on chinese characters because i can read them. You can see the characters for the elements everytime at the beginning and they are chinese. Store names in the cartoon are also chinese.
Although it has chinese in it...it is an american cartoon. I must say that the creators are very talented because i enjoy tthis cartoon very much.

by japenese and the writing is
shown in japenese writing.
the creators are also american
you can see on this commercial
on channel 25. or at the end
when they show the credits.
i love that show.... especially

neither, it's an american cartoon.
the creators of the series are Americans (you can see this in the opening sequence when it says "created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko"
this animation *was* influenced by japanese anime and some live action movies. the show is animated in Korea but it is still an American show.
