A Love So Strong

Your arms are so strong
And your heart is so full.
You've worked so hard for so long
To bring our family under God's rule.

You are gentle and sweet
Yet vigilant and secure.
Taking care of us is quiet a feat
Yet one you are so easily able to procure.

I will love and admire you forever
Our children will always look up to you.
This bond we have shall never be severed,
This love we have will always renew.

I quite liked it. I thought that some of the metaphysical imagery was particularly effective. Interesting rhythmic devices too, which seemed to counterpoint the surrealism of the underlying metaphor of the humanity of the poet's compassionate soul, which contrives through the medium of the verse structure to sublimate this, transcend that, and come to terms with the fundamental dichotomies of the other and one is left with a profound and vivid insight into whatever the poem is about!

It's a fine poem, in a greeting card kind of way. It rhymes, but it doesn't flow poetically. It seems like your are expressing a message rather that trying to make beautiful words. In that case I would recommend letting go of the ABAB rhyming scheme and saying exactly what you want to say. I get the feeling this poem is for one person, and I am sure they will appreciate it.
