The good shop will cover it.
Scenarios, If the mechanic is replacing the air filter and breaks the tab holing the filter. Good business says he replaces the part you pay for the filter.
If you drive away and the part they repaired fails, it doesn't matter if it is the installation or the part itself. Within a reasonable amount of time. I say a week or two. then the mechanic and shop have accounts set up and can return a failed part to their supplier. I do this for all customers as I want them all to return....But some shops not ASE or AAA certified may say the warranty is until 30 seconds before it fails. You may have to pa for the replacement again, this gives us all a black eye.
So I guess to answer the Q yes you still have to pay but it is required the part be in working order....

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If you mean the mechanic broke something while fixing something else, then the shop should pay for replacing what was broken by accident.
If you mean something that was repaired broke after the mechanic had fixed it, then it depends on the policy of the shop whether or not you have to pay. Some shops offer a guarantee on their work for a set amount of time. Some don't. In cases where they don't, you have to pay.

i own a repair shop and this happens a lot sometimes, most of the time i just go ahead and repair it and the customer never see,s it or has to pay for it,but there are times when things will break and even a good mechanic cant keep from doing it,so yes you do need to mention this to him,and let him know and he,ll probably repair it for you at no charge,if he,s a good mechanic he will, and like i said sometimes things happen that no one can predict that are going to happen, all you do is deal with it and go on,he probably will take care of it,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Again we need more info. Example would be replacing brake parts and a wheel stud breaks. That is one thing. Replacing tail light bulb and the windshield gets broke is another story. We are only good at honest answers if we have the proper information.

Most good garages will repair it at no cost. the exception is if the part was worn or ready to break before they worked on your car.. If this is the case, then the mecanic should notify you at once and inform you that there is a part that was worn before he removed it or it broke as he tried to remove it due to being in a very worn condition.
hope this helps......good luck

they have to cover what ever was broken. let them know you are aware that they broke some thing, and you do not intend to pay for it.
