I have put on 2 1/2 stones in 6 months!
I always eat loads and loads and have not been eating mre than usual since being pregnant, so why does the weight come on now but not when I'm not pregnant?
And how am I going to keep the weight on, or is there no way to do so?

Well i dont mean to be rude but first of all, you shouldn't cut down your diet now that your pregnant. You have 2 to feed now!! If you dont eat enough for you and your baby it will hurt both of you. But you will gain more weight because you have a little one growing inside of you... You are suppose to gain 7.5 from the fetus.. 7 from fats & protein.. 4 from increased blood.. 4 from increased fluid.. 2 from your uterus.. 2 from your amniotic fluids.. 2 from breastgrowth and 1.5 from your placenta.

I was just like you... i was 112lbs b4 i became pregnant, i would eat fast food everyday and not gain a pound.. i would actualy lose weight!! But im 141 and 36 weeks!! but we should be able to lose it easier

The body is designed to store fat during pregnancy. This is something that has evolved in us to ensure that pregnant women can look after their babies while they are in the womb and once they have been born. It is guarding against the possibility of food scarcity. Of course, in the modern western world, that isn't very likely for most people, but that is a recent development and our bodies don't change that quickly!

If you are a naturally thin person then you may find that you lose weight once your baby is born. Try to keep an eye on your calorie intake for a week or so - keep a food diary. Many thin people think they eat loads, but actually they don't! You could try eating slightly larger portions, making sure you have healthy snacks between meals, such as fruit and nuts, and including some good quality chocolate in your diet. Those measures will help to up your calorie intake.

I was always VERY skinny for my height.
I am 5'10" and before I got pregnant I weighed 110 pounds.
Eat what you want. You'll gain more and more weight towards the end.
Eat alot of pastas and cheeses and drink good amounts of milk.
Milk and dairy products are fattening, but you won't be unhealthily gaining weight as if you were eating only junk food.
And as for the post-pregnancy weight, you'll automatically lose 10-15 pounds in the first few months.
My son is 3 months old on the coming Sunday and I'm already down to 125pounds.
From 180-185 .
You'll lose you're pregnancy weight gradually over the year.
But to keep the weight on, eat good amouts of pastas which will slowly make you gain weight (putting weight on suddenly puts you at high risk for heat disease ) plus the carbs will give you more energy throughout the day, because it breaks down slower.
Milk, yogurt ,cheese and eggs helps too !

Good luck and congrats on the new baby!

You probably have a high basal metabolism (layman's terms; you burn off calories at a faster rate than most people); that's why you had trouble putting on weight before. Now that you're pregnant, you're not the only one metabolising your meals -- the baby is also putting on weight.

Some of the weight you've put on is baby, and some of it is amniotic fluid (which accumulates in the uterus no matter how much or how little body weight you put on). Once the baby is born that weight goes away. You will also put on some fat weight during the pregnancy -- especially in the breasts, for obvious reasons -- and that _might_ stay with you after the birth. As with every pregnancy, your mileage may vary.

You're putting on weight because you have a child growing inside of you. Some of the extra weight is blood volume, breast tissue, placenta, baby, and amniotic fluid. Your body is different in pregnancy and weight is added differently. Hopefully you'll be able to keep some extra weight after baby, but its not a garuantee. I had a friend in a similar situation and she lost all but 5 pounds...she loves those 5 extra pounds! Best of luck to you.

That's great - you might find with luck you can keep on the weight you need after the pregnancy. I had the opposite problem till I had my two, I think pregnancy does something to your metabolism.
My daughter is like you - eats like mad and can't keep on the weight. I encourage her to eat junk food, but as soon as she is ill and off her food even for a day or two, it falls off her.
Hope someone has some useful suggestions

Be patient!! Believe me, you will put it on!!
I was the same way, I would gain a pound here, 1/2 pound there, then nothing...and then once I hit about 7 months, I don't know what happened but I JUMPED in weight! By then I had only put on like 10 pounds....by delivery time I had gained 55 pounds!! That was with my first.
With my third pregnancy, I only gained 19 pounds the whole time...and she was 9 lbs. 8 oz.
Everyone is different though...as long as your doctor is not concerned, I wouldn't worry! Eat and enjoy!!

hi, unfortunatley the weight that you put on when you are pregnant is probably the weight the babay is gaining and also fluid retention which is very common, you could try eating foods that a low GI such as bread etc, nuts and eat them often as they are slow release the important thing is try and put weight on with healthy foods , oterwise you can damage your arteries etc, hope this helps

i would not load yourself up with junk food. your baby will not get any of the needed nutrients from those types of food. instead, continue eating healthy...fruits, veggies, whole grains. be sure to take your prenatal vitamins as well.

at your next appointment, inform your ob of your concerns. that's what their there to do. answer your questions, and help you have a healthy pregnancy.

do not set yourself to a limit on how many pounds you should or shouldnt gain. each person is different depending on their bmi and metabolism, as well as height and weight before pregnancy.

i was 105 before. didnt show at all then around my seventh month was as huge as a house. ended up gaining close to 50 pounds (more than people told me i should gain) but i was healthy, and baby was healthy. i ended up dropping all the weight within weeks of my daughters birth. back in my pre-pregnancy clothes when she was only 3 weeks old.

dont stress yourself out with numbers and scales. thats what doctors are for. to set you up with a correct healthy diet for you and baby.

you are gaining weight now because you are carrying around a baby in your stomach and your stomach stretches to accomodate the baby in there. it is unusual that someone would want to gain weight however you can ask your doctor after you have the baby if there's something to take that will make you gain weight. i would eat more chocolate, ice cream, cakes, take vitamins etc.
