I would be interested to read some of the big comics such as X-Men or Super Man from their beginnings, but I don't want to buy individual comics. Do they make a book that is a compilation of issues from the individual series?

Yes, they do make compilations. Below is a link that will take you to three for the X-Men comic. This was found on Amazon.com. You can also search there for Superman, and others.

Cheers!

They do it all the time!

These books shouldn't be too hard to find. Pretty much any big storylines you want to read about are compiled in books instead of individual comics.

Right now Marvel Comics has been releasing compilations for there last big storyline "Civil War." Another popular compilation is for last years "Marvel Zombies" storyline.

I've also seen these big compilation CD-ROM's with nearly every issue ever puplished of certain comic books.

They absolutely publish collections of issues of comic books. Check with your local Comic Book shop or Amazon.com to find out, but almost all of the big name books have collections.
