Isn't this like jingosim? This makes no sense. We have no bone to pick with the French. Yeah we have made some serious sacrifices on behalf of the French but that does not mean they owe us. Nor do we owe them either. We do not owe them, we have helped them many times before but we did not have to do that. We chose too. The French do have problems and do want to be a player on the world stage and despite kissing up to renegade Arab states for years, (Iraq and Iran most notably) they have incredible problems at home with immigration. They may need help someday but its probably not going to be automatic anymore. But we will probably help them again as we still have many things in common with the French and regardless of the politicians who govern France (in a fairly corrupt system) the French people are great and do not hate us as a people. Like all industrialized nation the French have a very active left wing who really hates just about everybody inside the country and outside but they do not rule the country, they just make a lot of noise and we have people who love to bark back. So its about barking dogs and not countries or statues. See how easy world politics can be!

No, we should not. Was France mistaken when she did not go along with the war in Iraq? With 70% of the American people now think it's a mistake to start that war, how could we blame France for not sending her sons and daughters into that meat grinder?
Remember, it was France alone among all the countries in the world that came to our aid during the darkest days of the Revolutionary War. Without France, we would not have won our independence, not without many more years of bloodshed anyway.
The Brits, who are so eager to be our "Mini-Mes" now, were trying to crush our young country then in the worst way. For eight long years (1775-1783) they put our patriots to the sword and only left when they were thoroughly beaten by our forces and those of our French allies. Not only that, they returned during the War of 1812, raiding our cities , blockading our ports and even burned our capital city of Washington, including the White House.
I, like most Americans, are related to the Brits by blood but I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw those limeys. The French stood by us when it really counted and had the courage to tell us it was wrong to get involved in the quagmire that is Iraq while the Brits kept their mouths shut hoping to get a cut in the oil profits when the dust settles. Now they are leaving Iraq when the going gets tough so who really are our true friends?

I couldn't disagree with you more.
Lady Liberty may have been given to us by the French as a token of friendship, but now she is universally recognized as the symbol of the United States and our American principles. Why would we give THAT away?

No. It was a gift from someone who was (and is) an ally, and it is a symbol of freedom which America stands for. The day your idea gets carried out would be a sad day indeed.

I don't understand what you mean, and who are the French supposed to defend themselves against. As for me, I don't like those who govern France, nor do I like those who govern the USA.
