I am new in town, I live in Lafayette, CA ( Bay Area, near San Francisco) and I wanted to know if there were any Gujarati/Hindu Temples, Gujarati places to eat, and basically where would be a good place for me to meet Gujarati people or Indian People?

A very good source of information is this website:

Gujarati/Hindu Temples - Shiva-Vishnu Temple in Livermore is the biggest Hindu temple you'd find in the area. It's located in the city of Livermore in East Bay. http://www.livermoretemple.org/hints/default2.asp There is no specific Gujarati temple. There is also other Hindu temples in Berkeley, Sunnyvale and San Bruno. And there's one near Concord as well but I forget the exact location now.

Gujarati places to eat - There are quite a few in South Bay. Not sure if there are any other ones up North near by from Lafayette. In Sunnyvale, Bhavika's chatpat is Gujarati. First one servers mainly chat items, the other ones have items from your typical Gujarati full course. Kokila's kitchen in Cupertino, KRishna restaurant in Fremont are also Gujarati. I am sure there are many other ones that I am not aware of.

Gujarati people or Indian People - There's an organization called GCA - Gujarati Cultural Association. They have activities year-round including garba and few other activities. In fact, they have Holi garba coming up this month. More info at http://www.gcabayarea.com/

Bay area is full of Indians so you will meet them practically anywhere and everywhere. Welcome to the bay area!

There are a lot of Indians (and so Indian restaurants) in Fremont. You can take bart there too, you don't necessarily have to drive. The Bart station is very close to an Indian theater (Naz) which shows bollywood movies. At least it did, it closed but I think it reopned. Anyway, most Indian restaurants I've eaten in in Fremont have had Indian newpapers/magazines and those can tell you what's going on locally, and tell about events where you can meet other Indians. I don't know your religion, but many Indian Chrsitians go to Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose.

Hope this helps, adn welcome.
