I think it depends on where you are in California. I think the higher the concentration of artistic people, the more liberal the views are going to be, so places like Los Angeles and San Francisco tend to be more liberal than the suburban areas, like Orange County. It's tough being a liberal here in South Orange County, let me tell you! It's all about driving the huge SUV and living in the 5000 square foot house - neither of which I have or pursue. It makes it hard to find people I can really talk to sometimes.
