I am 18 years old and 21 weeks pregnant right now, and I am RH-. In 2 weeks I will have to go in to get the RhoGam Injection and I am really scared. I just want to know how it is injected. Is it a shot of fluid, is it a chip or something, etc. I also want to know what the side effects are and anything else you think I should know about it. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate that. Thanks. :)

It's just an injection. If I'm not mistaken, they will take a small tube of blood from you, add the protection you need and inject it back into you. It takes about an hour. It burns like any other shot. It's really no big deal. I've had the shot 6 times, and I hate needles. Nothing to worry about, okay?

Hi! I am also RH- . I had the Rhogam injection for all 3 of my pregnancies. First of all, it is an injection given-usually in the buttocks. It has to be given into deep muscle tissue, and the rear is a good place for that. I did not have any side effects except it was kinda sore after they gave it. Most importantly, it needs to be given to you. Years ago, they did not have the shots to give and many women lost their babies after birth because antibodies would build up against the babies blood type. This is why it is so important to get. PLease just know you are protecting the baby by getting it. If you have concerns, you should call and talk to your doctor or the nurse where you go. They should be able to help you too. It's okay to ask questions!
I wish you the best.

i had the rhogam injection a few weeks ago, it's just a normal shot, they give it in your hip, and it burns just a little and it's fine. i had no side effects.

dont worry :)

my sister and one of my friends also have to have the injection, but they both have a while to go. sister is only at 8 weeks and friend is about 15 weeks.

I had my shot last week. It didn't hurt or burn at all. My dr. actually accidentally "nicked" a vein and left a nasty bruise, but I didn't feel it at all, and I have had no pain or side effects.
After all the blood that has been taken from you up to this point, this shot is nothing!!
You have nothing to worry about!

I just had my shot today, they give it in your hip and it does not hurt and I feel fine. It seems weird to give it to you this early. everything I have read says that it should be given at 28 weeks, since it only protects you and the baby for 12 weeks

There are no side effects and it feels like a small pinch, it'll be over in .2 seconds.
I would be WAY more worried about labor than this little shot!

It's a shot in the hip, and it will burn for a little bit. No big deal really. I had no side effects.

They will give you a shot in your hip and after the baby is born you will need another one to protect the next baby.
