The tests are different for different STDs. You need a blood test for Syphilis, HIV and Herpes. The swab test is for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trich, etc. So, you really should get both. They might need a urine test too.
I've heard that they put the swap in the weiner as well. But, a little bit of uncomfortable is worth the peace of mind that your thing isn't going to fall off from some funky disease.

its not a q-tip, but they do insert something. the process is comparable to a pap test for women, only unfortunately its much more painful for men. I think this is the only way to test for certain STDs, some can be detected through a blood test. you'll have to discuss this with your doctor though. please don't let a moment of pain detract you from being tested though, its very worth it.

Its a smaller Q-tip than you think. It really doesn't hurt at all. In fact it kind of tickles.
Don't worry about it and get yourself tested. Every man goes through it and some even do it every six months.
There's no pain involved.

I know they used to do that years ago, because my friends told me that it happen to them. this was over 25 years ago, i have not heard that they still do that?

they take a swab test by inserting the q tip thing down your penis !! has to be done as you can not detect certain sti 's in your blood ,blood is only for hiv ,hep B ,C etc......oh and that swab really hurts for like 5 seconds !!! but you will live !!
