In a network, is there a way to trace who accessed and copied a certain file in a shared folder?

That is, if the users are using the same log on or user ID?

Not unless you turned on logging in advance and not all networks have logging of file activity. If users are logging on by sharing passwords, then you don't have a chance except if they are doing it from a different computer.

if the file is siting in a shared folder that is mapped over the network then it's open season and everyone has access to it , the network isn't going to keep a log
