After i did a urine test at home i went to the doctor. When you go to the OB they will have you drop urine anyway. they will test it with a HPT as you would at home. (most will not test until you have a missed periord, because of the cost of the test and the blood test, they have to have a justifiable reason to test you. not just off of a humbug)
if they have a positive drop test, to check the viablitiy of the pregnancy they will do a blood test for the pregnancy hormone . you would have to go back in 2 days to get another blood test. if the numbers tripple.. you are pregnant and the pregnancy is viable at that time
that is how doctors determine pregnancy and are 100% accurate.
That just means you are pregnant. it does not mean the pregnancy can not terminate due to miscarriage. its just at that stage in the game, they can start preventative measures if there is a high risk for one.

The standard test is a urine test. These are exactly the same as the ones you buy in the store and, depending on how your insurance works, it can be more expensive (a co-pay for a doctor's visit, for me, costs more than just buying a test). You can take these before your missed period, but they are not very accurate until after your period. It all has to do with how much hormone your body is producing, if you are pregnant.
There is also a blood test which is much more accurate. It tells you how much of the hormone you have, not just whether or not it's there. The thing is that most insurance companies won't pay for it unless there is a reason. For example, if you were undergoing infertility treatments, they would pay for one to make sure you are pregnant and it's progressing. If you are just pregnant with no complications, they probably won't bother.
My OB won't even give you a urine test until you are over a month late. My GP would give me a uring test as soon as I had missed my period, but, as I said, it was not cost effective.
Best bet: go buy an early response test. Get one with more than one tester in it. If the first one comes back negative, wait until you have missed your period and re-test. If it comes back positive, start knitting booties.
Best of luck.

Doctors use blood or urine tests. The urine tests they use are sometimes not as sensitive as the ones you buy in the grocery store, such as First Response "early result" test.
Blood tests can pick up a pregnancy well before a urine test, and before a missed period. Since there is no medical reason to need to know this early, not all doctors will perform such a test before a missed period.
Pregnancy is a long waiting game (9 months of waiting) so you might just want to live as healthy as possible and assume you are pregnant and wait to see if your period comes or not.

yes they can tell and the test are 100% accurate. however if you haven't missed your period yet they would probably have to do a blood test. i wouldn't have a test done yet unless you are having signs of pregnancy.

They can tell 3 days after you conceive, a regular pregnancy test will show the levels. You can buy over the counter test and do the test with your first morning urine.

no, you need to wait until you miss a period.
They have a stick like a packet you buy at the pharmasist.
Only go to them having waited a week after your period and taken a test! As a doctor is there to confirm it
