Fertile cervical fluid is usually produced for a few days before ovulation. Some women produce more cervical fluid and some less. Some produce it for more days and some for only half a day. W/o fertile cervical fluid, sperm can ONLY live 30min-4hrs. W/ fertile cervical fluid, sperm can live up to 5 days (especially w/ the most fertile eggwhite like CF) waiting for ovulation.

Once and egg is released, it will live for 12-24 hours. About 10% of the time, another egg is released w/in 24hrs of the first. This egg will also live 12-24 hours.

This gives a fertile time of about 5 days before ovulation (IF fertile cervical fluid is present) and 24-48 hours after for the fertile time.

In order to conceive, you need to know when YOU are fertile. The best chance to conceive seems to come from intercourse on days w/ fertile cervical fluid BEFORE ovulation, especially the last day of fertile CF before a drying pattern begins (called the Peak Day).

I highly recommend charting your fertility signs. Your chart can tell you when you are fertile, when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Your chart can also tell you if there are issues delaying conception or causing difficulty w/ carrying a pregnancy and if there are serious issues which need a doc's attention.

Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility

The experts aren't 100% sure about this, but most agree the egg will live for 12-24 hours after you ovulate. Many believe that it is actually closer to 12 hours than 24. This means that you can not wait until you know you ovulated to have intercourse--you have a much better chance of getting pregnant if the sperm is "waiting" for the egg. The sperm can live up to 5-6 days inside a women so it's best to start having intercourse about 5 days before ovulation is expected and on the day that you ovulate as well. You should have intercourse every other day if you're not sure if your partner's sperm count is normal, and every day if you're sure that it is. The reason is that if his sperm count is low and you don't even know it, having sex every day can reduce his count, so it's better to do it every other day.

Ovulation last from 12-24 hours.. thats the simple answer..
But if really wanting to know what the window is.. If you and your partner are TTC u can do the BABY DANCE up to 5 days before u ovulate and still concieve.. Because sperm can live along time..
Some doctors belive that once u ovulate your body will create hostile cervical mucous.. not allowing you to conceive.. so they think its best to BABY DANCE right before u ovulate.. But Other doctors don't belive that.. Hey its different for all woman.. But yeah simple answer u ovulate.. and the egg will live 12-24 hours afterwards if nothing happens.. egg will die.. die is not a great word.. but u know what i mean. hope this helps

Around two. But you can be fertile for days prior to your ovulation (cause sperm keep on living in ideal conditions for upto five days) and one or two days afterwards (but conception chances diminish greatly).
