I have a gateway laptop that is pretty much being scrapped for parts, and I was able to remove the flat panel lcd monitor. I was wondering, can they be used away from the laptop for anything at all? Like, is there an adapter of sorts that I can hook a VGA plug up to, or any way to use it as a second monitor for either a laptop or desktop? Or a way to rig it, so that it will? If I thought someone might buy it individually, I would put it on ebay. I mean, its just sitting here, and I hate to waste things...
P. S.- If by any chance, someone needs any gateway parts (besides the HD, and DVD rom, I claimed that!!) just email me. It is a Gateway Solo 1450

you could just link it to a normal PC. just buy a cable to connect a normal monitor to a PC, strip it, and connect it to the cables connected to the laptop monitor. OR.. you could use it as a paperweight!

Sorry to say that I don't think you will be able to use that display on anything other that the exact model of laptop it was designed for. That is one advantage that desktops have over laptops, individual componants for the most part are designed to work with everything else. On laptops though most of the components are proprietary. They are only concerned with getting it to work with the very specific hardware that is the rest of the laptop.
I like your idea about putting it on ebay. You never know who might have that model and has a broken display. I have an acer travelmate 220 that has a bad motherboard in it. From time to time I'll check ebay to see if someone might be selling one for parts that maybe had a cracked display, or some problem other than the moterboard. So far no luck though :(
