I am seriously thinking of buying one as it seems to be good value for money and has all the features I am looking for (dual core, 17" screen, 120gb, webcam and pre-installed Vista). I'll be using it for internet, word-processing, downloading music, videos, managing photos etc.

ANYTHING with Vista is going to be a problem..
Here's some...
1) Third party drivers/applications are not allowed unless “approved” by Microsoft. Some of your favorite software won't run on Vista because the drivers have not been "approved" by Microsoft. This also means that the digital camera you just bought may not be "allowed" to connect to the PC.
2) ALL media copied thru Vista is SERIOUSLY degraded. The mp3s that you rip, are not allowed to be full quality. Same with DVD's.
3) Takes up too much of the already strained resources.
Personally, if XP ever goes out of support, I'm going Linux

I recently bought an acer laptop, the second one in our household which came with free upgrade to vista home premium. Still haven't sent off for it yet and think I will only bother getting it because it's free. But its not going to be installed. I think this is a big big step for microsoft. They got it wrong in the past. Windows 98 had its glitches and ME was even worse. So along came windows 2000 and then xp. Then we had service pack 1 and then 2. It looks to me as though they haven't been getting it entirely right for 10 years.

Give vista a miss until all the glitches and supportive software are sorted. Buy an Acer laptop though. They are ACE R
