The parking lights do come on though when the car is in park. If I raise the steering column, the light will work just fine. Anyone have an idea of what might be causing the problem and any estimates on repair? Thanks.

I have tried replacing the bulbs and I do realize the problem is in the steering colum...I've been told it could be the turn signal switch or worse...prices range from anywhere of not so expensive to hundreds of dollars. I was just wondering if anyone experienced the same thing and can give me an idea before I take it to a shop...would like to be prepared! :-). Thanks so far for the responses!!!

You need to replace the bulb because that light has two filaments; one for the parking light and one for the brake and flasher. This happened to my Transport Van. I took it in because I thought it was serious. They went straight to the lights, changed the bulb and charged me $55 for this. I had the bulb at home, it would of cost me nothing.

if the lights work when you tilt up the steering wheel then the problem is in there .
other then that i would replace the bulbs first cheapest thing to do .
yes replace the bulbs first . save them if problem not fixed .
then it would seem the problem is in the wires in the steering column .

I had this ensue to me as quickly as I had a Toyota Corolla years in the past. it would start up and be discover, then i might observe the lights might dim. It replaced into my alternator. I basically found out when I had offered a clean battery and positioned it in. i'm hoping that isn't what it somewhat is for you, it somewhat is high priced. it somewhat is a sprint fuse...go your palms...it is low value.

Take your car in for service. They'll tell you the problem.
