20,000 people die a year driving to work. I pay taxes and have a family. I have a greater chance of getting cleaved in half by a semi than our soldiers have of dieing in Iraq. Why is my sacrifice any more or less valid.

So far, most of the victims of terrorism, like those in 9/11, have not been soldiers. I am not trying to imply our soldiers aren't sacrificing their lives for their country. I do support them and condemn Walter Reed for having mold in the showers, but I do resent the so called "chicken" hawk mentality that you have to be in the military to have any opinion about the war.

Consider, if I die in a car wreck, my family is no less grieved for me than if I was to die in Iraq, but only my family would consider me a hero. Soldiers who die are lucky, because no matter what they did or how they lived their lives, they are heroes. Consider Lindy England. Had she have died in a prison outbreak and the Abu Grahib pictures never came to light...

I was following you until you wrote the last paragraph. The victims of 9/11 were just that, innocent victims, killed by Islamic fascists. A hero would be someone who died saving a life, or preventing death while putting himself in danger, etc. Soldiers are keeping these crazies from attacking us again, so yes, when they die, they are considered heroes. They are sacrificing everything so you can live in peace.

We all serve in our own way. We all serve our country. The sacrifice of soldiers is honored because it is somewhat above and beyond every day duty. The deaths of so many on 9/11 is all the more tragic because of the cause of their deaths. The people that really miss them and the soldiers that have died in nations and places all over the world, are the people that they leave behind. The official grief is a show, an honor given for service or a remembrance of a horrible thing. The real people affected are the families that are left behind.
If you were to die in a car wreck, or from a terminal disease, or were killed in a war, the gief would be the same. The difference is how the nation as a whole would consider you.

I feel that a lot of heroic acts took place on 9 -11 we will never know about.I think most were probably just scared victims.
however they were people like most of us who had the potential to be heroes. and would have made heroes if had been given the chance to be. To have gone thru what they did, not knowing what was happening or why, there is nothing wrong with
calling them all heroes. or at the least very brave and concerned individuals in the wrong place at the wrong time. And would be honored to be remembered as heroes, serving there country.

I understand what you are saying. The victims of 9/11 were in a sense serving their country by working and paying taxes the same as you and I do. They were heroes to somebody such as their family. The victims of 9/11 tend to be lumped together as victims and soldiers who die tend to be labeled heroes. No matter how anyone dies it is still a loss of a human life and should not be more important then the next person.

it all depends on how u die ....well dying in a car crash is just ur fate ......u don't go n willingly put ur life in danger....whereas soldiers go out of the way risking their lives....i woudn't say dat 9/11 victims r gr8 .....dey also died due to fate....dey didn't sacrifice a thing 4 ur country ........but soldiers r different.,lets not bring them into the picture wen dey r trying 2 protect u from various forces .........9/11 victims r dead..no point in talking abt them..it's sad n deep sorrow is caused 2 many ........dey didn't do sumting gr8.......they r considered more patheteic cos they were killed by someone.......if u had been killed dere im sure ppl would have considered u noble too..

"Soldiers who die are LUCKY?"

I can think of about 3,000+ people who would disagree with you, and about four times that many if you want to include families.

For someone who says they're not trying to bash our military, you're doing a pretty good job of it.

Next time you get the urge to shoot your mouth off and otherwise abuse the freedom of speech that our men and women in uniform are busy defending for you, I suggest instead you go find a soldier, sailor, airman, or marine, and just say "thank you" instead. It will mean a heck of a lot more, and will make that service member's day.

I agree with what you say and it is bad policy to pick and choose, for instance the people who died at Oklhoma city were as innocent as the people in N.Y. but you did not see the feds giving them multi millions of our money. They were employees doing their job just like you and I and if we die on the job we may get a measley 10 grand, a card, and a 100 bucks collected from the coworkers. Life is so unfair.

i agree with you but you have to give the credits to the soldiers since they are putting their life on the line everyday... 20,000 people die a year driving to work, they don't expect to die... soldiers goes out to war wondering will they come back to their family in one piece...

I agree, one death shouldnt get more attention than another

I especially get annoyed when people who have really dangerous jobs get killed and they get glorified, like Rodeo guys, Soldiers, NASCAR drivers, if you take a job and get killed doing a job that was risky well your family doesnt deserve any more attention becuase of your death than if the family lost a dad from a heart attack

- on other subject, many people dont think it was terrorists who flew the planes into the towers, many think it was orchestrated by Bush government in order to get USA behind their plans to secure oil and an oil route.

Dying for a CAUSE is noble. Getting your dumbazz killed because you didn't yield the right-of-way to that oncoming tractor-trailer just gives credence to Darwin.
