Hi Steve,

It is possible your burner will not write to -R media although that is unlikely. The other possibility is you need to update your driver to handle newer media. The first thing you should do is update the drivers for your burner.

As far as -R / +R - The DVD+R and DVD-R are competing formats much like the old VHS and Beta formats in video tapes. Today most drives are Hybrid and handle both formats. They are usually labeled DVD+/-R.

The market for recordable DVD technology shows little sign of settling down in favor of either the plus or dash formats, which is mostly the result of the increasing numbers of dual-format devices that can record to both formats; it has become very difficult to find new devices that can only record to one of the formats. However, because the DVD-R format has been in use since 1997, it has had a five-year lead on DVD+R. As such, older or cheaper DVD players (up to 2004 vintage) are more likely to favor the DVD-R standard exclusively, and when creating DVD’s for distribution (where the playing unit is unknown or older) the DVD-R format would normally be preferable.
My personal experience has led me towards using the +R but I have no solid reason in favor of either.

You have to check the type of your dvd drive. To be able to record on both types, you need to have a dvd+-r drive. If you only have the dvd+r drive you can't record on a -r disc.
I am not sure the difference between the 2 types of dvd.

Would suggest your drive is not compatible to both types of disc, you will need a +/- type recorder. I believe the difference between the two types are:
+R formats the complete disc before writing to it and -R only formats the portion of disc that you are writing to, therefore slightly faster in writing.

You should be able to, but the compatibility is not as good with DVD+R.

Try using Deepburner to do so and check it out.
