I have and it is fantastic! 16 km long, a lot of wildlife you can only see in Crete around (only problem, you won't see the wildlife cause they won't approach the tourists), amazing landscape. There is an old abandoned Cretan village approximately in the middle, that was never conquered and was used by the Cretan resistance both against the Turks and the nazis. Beside it there's a very small church and a few tombs. You won't need to take water with you because there are several cold water fountains along the way (I made that mistake). The first part of the trekking is very tiresome because you're descending and walking on pebblestones but then it gets better, only you're already tired. Near the end, there's a lot of water between the gorges walls and then there are roman ruins to your right, if you still aren't tired enough to stop and look carefully. Finally, you arrive in a small village by a crystal sea and you can sit down and ask for a salad and a very cold coke somewhere - and rest. The way back to the bus that took you to the start of the gorges, from Chania, early in the morning, is by boat and you can admire the awesomely amazing Cretan coast as you go. Tiring, yes, but I'd go back there again.

Hello, When we were on holiday last year in Crete,we stayed in Stalis and my husband walked the Gorge, he booked it through the reps and was picked up very early in the morning(,at least it was door to door )and got back to our hotel in Stalis around 9pm.
He had a wonderful day,a long trek through the Gorge, stopping at natural springs to get water, the views were fantastic he said and the photos he took were great.
We are going back this year and he can't wait to walk the Gorge again,it was an experience he will never forget and loved every minute of it. If you don't mind the walk then go for it I'm sure you will love it. Have a great holiday.

I was stationed in Crete twice with the Navy. Loved that trip, and loved the island itself. Could use some fresh souvlaki pitas and a Fanta limon right now!

I've heard it is beautiful, but it is a long walk. Take comfortable shoes, water, etc.
