Because we are arrogant and greedy. I wouldn't say everyone is corrupt, probably just politicians.

Greed is #1...corruption and arrogance follow. The almighty dollar rules for most people.....not content with what they have.....major consummerism.....the problem is that possessions don't really make you happy...happiness comes from inside.....the one who has the most toys still dies. Another thing that bothers me is that nobody takes responsibility for their own actions or decisions.....you can ALWAYS find someone to sue....it's the American way!

Apparently, we're too arrogant to admit we have problems with greed and corruption, so they perpetuate. That arrogance, if you want to trace it far enough, comes from thinking that we're "God's chosen country." Just listen to Bush for awhile; his rhetoric is laced with that.
