ok well my friend adam dropped it on the carpet but right after we played a dvd and it worked fine then i turned it off turned it back on and then went ot play a game and it stopped working. i had been playing one when he dropped it. i got it off ebay from someone who only had it a couple months and it worked fine. i want to avoid having to take it to a shop so if you know about the inside of a ps2 let me know because i dont.

It's hard to diagnose without knowing the model number. The SCPH39001 shifts something if it's dropped that would cause it to stop playing DVDs. if it's another model, the laser could have been damaged in the fall.

well...the laser is burning out

so either get a new one, or pay sony to repair it
