Basically guide them

Is it also true the women like to be held really tight when dancing.

I am always up for tips and info on what women want; so if there is anything you want to share please do

It depends on what kind of dancing you're talking about. If it is ballroom then yes, man gets to lead. It doesn't mean holding tight - she is not falling or running away. (Actually, if you hold too tight she might think you're a crip and you will never let her go of her.) Also doesn't mean guiding. It means giving clear signals on what step are you doing next. It means initiating the move. But if she didn't take your lead - oh well... Even if it is Tango - you don't hold her tight, but rather you do your steps and body positions correctly and you initiate every action. Then you add a little bit of lead with your arms, but very little. That creates an illusion of holding her tight, but in fact you are merely giving her clear signals.

As a ballroom dancer, I like him to be competent rather than in control.

Other types of dancing - in general, no. It is not given that the man gets to lead.

Yes that is defiantly true because I mean why would a woman want this guy that goes ballistic when it is time to dance? Yeah no they don't like when there out of control. If you are not married they also like when you call them at least once a day or even two or three times a day because I have a boyfriend and I know I like him calling me at least once a day!

It really depends on the type of dance. (ex. ballroom) But usually if it's something other than ballroom, no.

As for the "tight" thing. I'd say no unless you're doin the tango.

Hold her gently. not painfully.

well if you're talking about the traditional, like ballroom kinda dancing, then i think it goes that way - the man leads, the woman follows.

the best dancer is the one who can match the women steps, without letting her know. then she will say to you , you are a good dancer!!!! works for me !!!!
