This is still mind boggling that they would even attempt to try something like this. He was one of the people who was the heart soul, and intensity of the team and standed down for no one. On some occasssions when Pittsburgh Played the Browns They would always get in an disagreement or just a all out figth (i love those). I still can't belive waht I'm hearing why would they do something like this?

ITS PORTER. too high of a salary for his age. the steelers dont burden their team by paying high contracts to players on the downside of their careers. That is how they remain competitiive year in and year out.

Miami fans should be talking about stiffs as coaches!!!
ha ha ha thats rich

sometimes teams just feel the need to make a move like this whether it is to free up cap space, or there is an issue with a new coach, or whatever. im not sure it was a great move, but im not complaining now that the dolphins have signed him!!!!

anyways, i think the worst move so far this offseason by the steelers was hiring mike tomlin from the vikings. he had the 32 ranked pass defense in the league, and he had pretty good talent in the secondary. im not sure what possessed them to give him the head coaching job, but maybe this silly decision to let porter go was his decision. i am very eager to see how pittsburgh's defense does next year with this stiff as a coach

good luck

ADDITIONAL............um every team is different when it comes to making decisions. some coaches have free reign to make the decisions, some are even the GM as well. but the coach ALWAYS HAS AT LEAST A SAY IN THE DECISIONS. saying that isnt true is a completely ignorant statement fellas. You think GMs who know nothing about the game make the decisions without any input from the coaching staff? The coaches are the ones using the players and creating the schemes. The GMs make the final decisions on who they bring in and who they let go, but they do this with extensive advice from the coaches. Man ive never heard such ignorant noise in my life.

as far as miami talking about stiff coaches.....wannstedt was the worst coach in the history of the game. saban is a backstabbing POS. however, cameron had an unreal offense at san diego and he is going to be great if you are talking about him. i can admit when we have a terrible coach, players, whatever. most fans cannot do that. tomlin is a complete stiff, write it down, take a picture, and watch your defense crumble next year

he had a drop off in production last year and he wont fit in the 4-3 tampa 2 scheme that tomlin has always run he is undersized to switch to a down lineman and dosent have the great cover skills plus pittsburgh needed to clear some cap space

tomlin dosent make the personel decisions for pittsburgh so you cant blame him

Well now we know that the new head coach of the Stellers is a total RETARD. Bad decison to choose someone with barely any experiance in the first place.

Salary. I think he was suppose to make 8 million this year with salary and roster bonus and next year was 9 million. that is to much for a decling player. But I would love him on my favortie team.

fyi,its the general manager's decision to release players, its not the coach's.

they released porter since his salary was hindering the team from adding other valuable pieces to the team.
