i have a 40 Gb samsung external hard disk which i dropped today...now the pc doesnt detect it anymore and all dat happns is that the light keeps blinking from green to red and back...i opened it and made sure there are no loose contacts...someone please tell me what to do now

Open the case again and check the jumper on the back of the drive and make sure it's not loose or missing. It should be between the power connector and the ribbon cable connector. There should also be a diagram on the top of the drive indicating which pins the jumper should be on for MASTER. Some drives require NO jumper for MASTER setting. If it's jumpered correctly you have probably destroyed your drive when you dropped it. Take that one out and go buy a new drive. Keep in mind you can probably get a larger one and install it in the old box if you havent damaged any of the components inside.

take the hard drive out of the case put it close to your ear rotate it slowly end to end see if any thing makes noise like some thing rattling around inside ...the arm broke off in mine when i dropped it about 2 feet.

that's one thing a hard drive don't like is a hard hit like that power it off for a minute or so and then turn it back on
