I always press it repeatedly for some reason even though I know it isn't going to make the elevator arrive any sooner. I seem to do this with the crosswalk buttons at intersections too... maybe I have OCD or something.

normally just once but if it is the end of the day at work to get the lift quick you have to press up and down and then when it arrives continuely press it to trick it go down instead of up.

I think probably the same amount of times as you do when using a pedestrian crossing! If you are in a hurry you DEFINITELY need to press more than once, if not more!!!
