It is electromagnetic radiation as in radio frequency, and that is why it is best not to overuse a cell phone if you can help it. Studies are not conclusive as to the effects on your health, but it doesn't bode well for the user of a cell phone.

Also keep it on your belt when not in use just to be safe. Many people think it's a joke and do not care------------Yet!! Be careful and quick with cell phones until we know more. @8-)

Cell phones work by sending microwaves(small radio waves) from tower to tower and from cell phone to tower and tower to cell phone. The radiation is electromagnetic radiation in the small radio range about 4 inches long in wave length. It is not ionizing radiation( effects our cells) but there are still studies going on on their health effects. Police RADAR use the same waves and police have developed problems from the units in their cars.We know that there are radio waves in the air all the time, all we have to do to determine this is turn on a radio and switch channels, TV too.
