How about outside of Internet Explorer? Are your desktop icons large too? It sounds like your screen resolution changed. Have you checked it? Here's how:
Right-click on your desktop and select Properties
Click the Settings tab and check what your screen resolution is set to. 800x600? 1024x768? Move the slider to the right to increase the resolution, which decreases the size of your screen elements.
If it's isolated to Internet Explorer, you can try clicking View > Text Size and select a smaller option, but this only affects text size. I'm guessing it's your screen resolution.

No matter any version of the Internet Explorer you are using the following steps will surely help you to solve your problem.
Open Internet Explorer, Click on View, Go to Text Size, you will see; Largest, Larger, Medium, Smaller, Smallest. I preffer to keep it Medium. Now check out.
