The designation of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th world was discarded around the time the cold war came to an end. The 1st world consisted of the Western industrial democracies and Japan, the 2nd world consisted of the Soviet block and Communist China. The 3rd world consisted of developing nations such as S. Korea and Brazil, and the 4th world were the most imporvished nations which included Liberia.
Today the proper desinations are Developed Country, Developing Country, and Least Developed Country (LDC). These terms and criteria were devised by the UN.
In 2003, 50 countries were tagged LDC which included Liberia.
