I have several accounts on desktop - and when I scan the main account it takes a good few hours. Do I need to scan all accounts or is this already being done from main account?

As long as the main account is also the "Administrator" account, then it can scan all files and folders on your hard drive.

Check to make sure you have administrator privileges: Open "My Computer," double click on "Drive C:," (your main hard drive), double click on "Documents and Settings," then double click on a folder that is different than the user you are logged on as, if the folder opens you are an Administrator, if not you need to change your account type in Control Panel, User Accounts, Change Account Type.

Secondly: Make sure that when you do a virus scan that you do a full system scan, not a smart scan or limited scan. A full system scan will ensure that your antivirus will check every nook and cranny of your hard drive.

Thanks,
Charlie

By default, a virus scan will check ALL accounts on the computer with 1 scan.

I believe all anti-virus software scan your entire hard drive for ALL of the accounts and delete any viruses thereafter.

whoever suggested purchase abode windows stay sare or in spite of that's, dont. maximum anti viruses are 'particularly designed for abode windows' so theyre speaking bull. anybody that asserts use a mac, isn't answering the question. relatively: Use AVG. Google it. AVG unfastened version is unfastened, and can provide each thing you ned for anti virus risk-free practices. purely because of the fact you pay for something doesnt make it extra desirable, maximum those that are solid with pcs use unfastened or open source application for issues which includes this. additionally dont have vehicle scans usual, purely have one each week or purely manually carry out as quickly as a weekish. I do a scourge test each month or 2 now, i dont know the way p[eople relatively be able to get viruses :S. do no longer attachments till you're a hundred% particular you have been meant to receive it, dont pass on any dodgy web pages, dont get carry of any dodgy cracked application off limewire. do no longer get carry of any small information or zip information from limewire. in case you decide on a firewall try zonealarm unfastened. :) Edit: to the fellow or woman that disagreed with me: I nevertheless have faith maximum those that know plenty approximately pcs use open source / unfastened courses. As maximum of them use diverse distros of linux. Panda is a source hog (reminiscence). maximum unfastened courses that human beings recomend (which includes advert conscious and spybot) are totally useful and unfastened, they furnish consumers of venture to donate to the devs or purchase the completed software which has extra desirable applications (that are no longer mandatory). 'You get what you pay for' is utter rubbish: maximum version of linux: unfastened. abode windows vista: £2 hundred extraordinary. :) relatively use AVG, in case you have any issues they havea dialogue board and any computer suggestion dialogue board could have memebers chuffed to help you out. If it doesnt artwork out, decide for a version you need to pay for. And yet another element, no longer all builders are 'companies' they do no longer look to be all attempting to make money, subsequently open source application, the guy replying to me didnt look to understand that.
