I always had a weak spot for the big guys (Assault Mechs). The Atlas, the Battlemaster or the Marauder II (twin PPC and Jump Capable)
But I do have a soft spot for the Warhammer also

If you are still a beginner, try those with LRM's its better to fight in the longer range. eventually you will have the kick of the game to let you decide for yourself which is the best. Choosing the best mech really depends on each point of view and mode of playing either close combat or long range.

Mad Cat is the most unique looking mech, and the face of the clan. Thus this is my favourite, with Vulture as a close second.

Phoenix Hawk (K variant especially)
An abosolute killer in 1-on-1 combat. Very effective in lance vs. lance combat too.
Very mobile. Jump capable. Pulse lasers for accuracy. Well armored for its class. The best mech ever for punching through back armor.
