I agree with Museumdol - schools can only enhance what PARENTS impart to their children. I often see parents failing to teach their children the basic character values, including citizenship. If parents wouldn't take the "I'm so busy" or "I believe in freedom of expression" attitude perhaps you wouldn't have 10 year old children jay walking down the center of the road and when you try to go around them, flip you the bird and grab their crotches - which happened to someone I recently met. These are also the same kids that are becoming teenagers and learn to drive with enormous egos of road ownership and don't watch for the other guy and obtain road rage if they don't get their own way.
I am not a teacher, but I have teenagers. They are not alike at all and do not have the same reactions to things but I will tell you it was my responsibility to insure they knew right from wrong, what is rude behavior, how to respect their elders, and what is expected of them out in public as well as in the home.

Don't blame th schools, they are paid to teach subjects and happen to use values to keep things organized - blame the parents for lack of values.

It is the responsibilty of parents and guardians who are the first teachers of the young to provide or impart the " right values " to their children. It is the role of school to impart knowledge and the opportunity to develop in both an academic and social sense. Schools have an ethos that reflects the values that reflect the society in which they exist. In that sense they help to reinforce the values which are imparted in the home. Often there is a conflict between school and home if the values imparted by the parents are in opposition to those of the school.

It isn't the school's job to impart values. It's their job to impart knowledge and an education on our children. If anyone has failed to teach values to children, it's the parents.

I agree to some extent. I believe, however, that it is not the school's job to "impart values". If a child is trained properly in the home (by Christian standards), no further moral or ethical training will be necessary.

Is it the job of the schools to impart values? Ha! I think you are confusing education with parenting.

You need to be more specific because your question doesnt really explain much. What do you mean schools have failed to impart the right values to students? It needs more explaination....you might want to delete this question and repost it this time being a little more specific.

School is not suppose to impart values on our children. That is our jobs as parents. The only exception to this is when you bring schools of religon, that share the same views as the church.

The schools are their to prepare our children for their futures in the worlds work force. They educate them. We install the morals and the values that our parents and elders passed on to us. Hope this clarifies for you.

I don't agree. It isn't the schools job to instill values into students. It is the parents job to instill value into their children. However, the school should take care to respect the values of the children.
