My three friends and I are going to the Domican Republic next week for some R and R. I need some tips:
- I plan on just reading and chilling mostly, how much money should I bring?
- Do the tour vendors / shops take MasterCard or Visa?
- Is it like Cuba where you bring soaps, paper, pens, etc... as tips?
- Anything I should know that I may be forgetting?
Thanks!

Hey!
Yeah bring from 300-325$ in American because at the airport, They are going to ask for 10$ if you're not Dominican. Try to change your money at the airport because they give you more money. Money over there is 32 Pesos per dollar over here so Around 10,000 pesos is good. Taxis are like 320 Pesos and you leave them a 120 peso tip.

Tip about taxis: Never let them drop you off at the direct location, just say the street and the crossing like 34th/5th thats all and let someone know you're going to be there liek a friend, family etc. but if your with 3 frineds you should be good but follow the street rule!

Yes, Shops that cards

Tip: While pinning number make sure no one but your people are around because Dominicans are SMART

If your driving with friends in a car and it's pass 8:40 P.M you are allowed to run the red lights. Your aloud to do that because at night, is when most of the crime takes place. Don't worry the police wont stop you... It's funny because their no 24 hrs a day it's from 6 A.M-8:30 P.M Sunday-Friday and 4 A.M- 10 P.M are Saturdays...

Tip: If you stop at a light during the night and people come near the car 1st LOCK the doors and hit the gas...If they are in front of you who cares run them OVER

If you're planning to stay at an all inclusive resort, and you are not leaving the resort, you won't need much money. Just in case, Bring a couple of hundred dollars for taxis, tips, or anything that might come up.
Almost all stores take Visa and Mastercard. Visa is the most popular card actually.

You dont have to bring any soap, paper or pens as tips.

Believe me, no one would like a pen or a soap bar as a tip, they want cash.

Honey, this is nothing like Cuba, forget the soaps, and stuff, for tips use money, much better if in Dollars.
Most hotels have tours, Im not sure, but I think they do take visa, here the most accepted credit cards, (almost everywere) are visa and mastercard, and American Express (but not at all places)
If you plan on reading you wont enjoy your stay that much, there are lots of things to do here, dining, discos, hotels, beaches, tours, islands, rivers, rafting, lots of stuff.
amount of money, depends, how many days, staying where?
here the money exchange comes up to 33 pesos per dollar,
depends where you are, we have very expensive places, just as we have cheaper places.
packing: fresh clothes, cause is always hot here, casual clothes, in case you need to go out at night, snickers, like on every trip you take, you'll walk (any Country), sandals, bathing suit, SUN BLOCK.
Enjoy your stay, Im sure you'll love it.

Is this an all-inclusive resort? If it is, You won't need much money.(a couple of hundred) We always bring dollars for tips. When we went to the stores and excursions they took our credit cards. Vendors (markets) on the beach wanted your cash.

Have a wonderful trip.

That is funny. I've never heard of soap or paper being offered as tips.
