My wife just found out that she’s pregnant… only about 2-3 weeks along. She recently had a dental x-ray. The x-ray machine was pointed at the side of her face and they covered her with an x-ray shield from her neck to above her thighs (belly was completely covered). Now that she knows she is pregnant, she will avoid any other x-rays, but she is scared that she may have done some damage to the baby. Should she be concerned? Any thoughts?

No, she shouldn't be concerned. As a rule of thumb, x-rays should not be done on a pregnant woman, but a dental x-ray is so short and in such a small dose, I doubt it would do any damage, especially because she was wearing the sheild. I'd say to not worry about it, because it will just drive her crazy and if she's still concerned to go ahead and call the nurse advice line. Congratulations on the baby and good luck!

No, the amount of radiation is so small and that's exactly why they cover your belly with lead.
No worries!

If she is concerned, bring it up to her doctor. The lead apron should have protected her. Best of luck.

If her belly was covered, she's fine.
