This is one new rule i like in the NHL. Who else thinks they are as fun & exciting as me??

Shootouts are awesome as long as my team comes out in the end DETROIT RED WINGS so as long as they win i am happy. as for shootouts, they make the game shorter, you never know whos going to win so it is very exciting

Personally I'm for the Tie. As to Shootouts Shorten the game HUH? If you went to the tie then you would drop the shootout and that would shorten the game. I mean the shootout ADDS length. I'm not going to say there is no excitement to them but I still would be just as happy with the old system. 3 periods, then 1 five minute OT and then a TIE. No points for OT losses, we aren't here to reward losers, 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. For the record the Pens are winning in Shootouts now and are above .500 in them so really it is just about I liked the old system better.

Why not wheel a basketball hoop out and have a free-throw contest to settle ties? It makes nearly as much sense.
Look at it on the other side: How about starting an 18 round shootout, and if it is tied after that, they play a game of hockey to settle it? That would sure shorten things up, most of the time.
Seriously, shootouts are not hockey games. Consequently, it makes no sense to settle a hockey game with a shootout.

i dont mind shootouts. its just annoying when a team u like looses in a shootout to a team in their division, causing that team to move up a point for a little extra excitment...
But i love watching shootouts where there is two teams u dont care for.

The shootout is extremely exciting and entertaining to watch. I hope they keep that rule. As far as the guy comparing it to a Freethrow contest, that analogy doesn't quite work unless the basketball net somehow moves left to right.

I like them but they make me nervous. Bad for the goalies - they could have a perfect game and then get ruined in the shootouts. But its still exciting.

I DO!!! but i'm biased because i love the sabres and ryan miller is amazing in shootouts!! i believe he actually has the best shootout record in the league. but they're fun to watch and its very exciting

Shootouts are fantastic. they are exciting for the fans and mean someone always wins... I absolutely hate ties
