Hmm, a clothes dryer 24 years old or so, let's see !! It probably cost $300 new. with 52 weeks in 24 years, that would be 1308 weeks. If you used it only 4 times a week, thats 5232 dryer loads, or less than 6 cents a load. if you had tossed 25 cents into a piggy bank each time you did a load of clothes, you'd have $1308 to go buy a new one.

It is probably the timer has worn it cogs or teeth/spring may be worn on timer...ok, maytag was very good in its day. This old a dryer is hard to find parts for plus you are going to start running into other problems like door seal drying out or getting hard and not sealing the door (expensive)...Between the two fixes average around $100 not including labor and trip charge. Then you may have a temp sensor bad or electrical motor cutoff thing...who knows?
I would look for a dryer at moving sale-mobile home sale places say someone bought a home and already has appliances-estate sales-some auctions
I am facing the same problem

I think you're out of luck. Most dryers last 15- 20 years. This one had a long run. Does it tumble? Does it get warm? My clothes take at least 40-45 minutes. Have you cleaned out the lint trap?

Get a new one. The damn machine is over 20 years old. It's probably not going to last much longer.
