1. a) if angles a and b are complementary, then a + b = 90.
Since a = b + 6, then (b + 6) + b =90, giving b = 42. a = 42 + 6 = 48.
Hence, a=48 and b=42.

b.) If a = 2b then 2b + b = 90. Then b = 30. And a= 60.

2. a) x + y = 180 since they are complementary.
Since x = 2y then 2y + y = 180. Then y = 60 and x = 120.

b) If x = y + 12, then (y + 12) + y = 180, then y = 84 and x = 96.

1. Complementary is adding to 90. Let a= one of the angles and the other would be a-6, as b is 6 less

The resulting equation would be a + a -6 = 90

combine like terms
2a - 6 = 90

Add 6 to both sides
2a = 96

Multiply by 1/2 (same as dividing by 2)
a = 48

b= 42

Sorry, have to go to work.....

Complementary angles are when A + B = 90 degrees
Supplementary angles are when A + B = 180 degrees

(Answers are in degrees)
1a) B + (B+6) = 90
2B + 6 = 90
B = (90-6)/2
B = 42

1b) B + (2B) = 90
3B = 90
B = 30

2a) Y + (2Y) = 180
3Y = 180
Y = 60

2b) Y + (Y + 12) = 180
2Y = 180 -12
Y = 84
