Yes, it is mandatory. Specially, if it is a govt job, then u cannot serve at two places at a time.

If you are talking about Government service THERE IS NO NEED TO RESIGN only you have to send the proposal through the concern department when applying. If you are selected it will be a continuation of service. I think this Procedure is not applicable in Private appointment and in such a case you have to resign.

yes u have to resign when u r taking a new appointment then only u could be able to get u r salary other wise wont.

it is ethical to resign before u take up a new assignment & also work out the resignation period or forgo the monetary aspect as per company laws.

if u r confident enough of ur n assignment simply resign and go ahead,i did the same thing 2 yrs back the results r very fruitful,Dont keep ur existing job on hold if u have faith in you.
