There is Shop Goodwill an online auction that helps the handicapped and also provides a safe trading venue. They recieve donations of new items from corporations and I have picked up some very good bargains. And yes, they work very fine - I buy many of my legacy and new parts there and have not had any problems.

You can get incredibly cheap computers that include a monitor and speakers and a mouse and keyboard from Wal-Mart. I don't know exactly why you would want to find an old computer that probably doesn't have a lot of the newer ports, and since older computers had less heat to deal with they wont be as well ventilated for the newer CPU's / GPU's. If you want an old computer anyways.... find some 60 year old woman who never uses her's and pay her for it.

Ubid.com
Its a web site that buys new and refubished computer and laptops from companys like dell and HP and sells them for half the price.
Unlike ebay, you are buying from a company instead of a user that you do not know.
I bought 3 dell laptops from Ubid for christmas and they are working great and they even came with a dell warrenty.
Ebay is good to but make sure to talk to the seller and check their feedback.
But ether way, you'll get a great deal

Buy yourself a copy of Micro Mart computer magazine. It's less than 2 quid and it has free classified adverts. You can either buy one which is on sale cheap or put in an advert yourself, there are always a number of cheap old computers advertised. Hope this helps and good luck with the course.

This may sound weird but you can get old PCs at some auctions. I know that my city annually auctions off things they don't need anymore like old computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, etc. Otherwise you can post an ad in the classifieds of your newspaper or online saying you want one, and of course e-bay would be a good place to check often.

Many good options here, particularly the freecycle deal.
You could also check around town with computer repair shops, etc. - not very often, but occasionally, they'll have junk sitting around that they don't want.
If all else fails, I've an old Gateway2000 (Pentium MMX-class, no hard drive, hair over nine years old) that's really doing nothing more than collecting dust - you pay for shipping, it's yours.

You must be taking A+,take a ride around your town on garbage day see if anyone is throwing out there old computer.Try the Salvation Army stores or the Goodwill stores. If that's all you need it for is to practice working on computers.Look in the dumpsters of computer stores.

I'm in the UK I was walking down the busy high street passed all the shops & every charity shop I walked past had old computers in the windows, really cheap too! if you don't want to walk around all the shops just look in yellow pages under charity shops & ask them. I'm sure you'll get one! : )

try local clasifieds such as www.upmystreet.com
www.ebay.com
also try your local charity shops and classified adds in the local free newspapers
also car boot sales often have loads very cheap £10-20 pounds
you could even try local college/buisnesses as they sell thier old ones cheap when they upgrade
look in your local telephone directory for computer repairs-sales etc ads as my town has a man who fixes computers using recycled parts of other pcs and sells them for about £25 pounds its a council -goverment initiave

more often than not because LINUX is "me too" application. It has very few compelling efficient factors that are more suitable positive than Mac or living house windows. maximum efficient factors in LINUX are inadequate for the massive majority of customers. * one can create MS note compatible information and spreadsheets genuine, yet you won't be able to run Microsoft place of work to cause them to. Microsoft place of work is a minimum of a decade more suitable stepped ahead the the perfect you are able to run on LINUX, it truly is LibreOffice. education prices on my own limit the change. * one can edit video and audio and create music in Linux genuine, yet there is not any iTunes, Garageband, iMovie, or iDVD * you are able to play some computing device video games genuine, yet no longer truly some the hot or maximum everyday to boot, the LINUX community tries to placed itself as "resembling" properly kinda sorta besides the undeniable fact that it truly is loose so do not pay interest to the deficiencies. evaluate that to Apple's campaign to "imagine diverse" which stated they were no longer in reality diverse, yet more suitable positive. human beings like diverse, yet on condition that it truly is demonstrably more suitable positive, as in Apple's case.
