Because they are no good. sry they are no longer the best team in the west the 2 best teams are the suns and mavs. Come playoff time the spurs dont stand a chance against them.

I'm a Mavericks fan, been a fan since when they came to the NBA in 1980, when I was a snot-nosed kid. The Spurs have always gotten respect, even when they were in the ABA. It's not about the Spurs not getting any respect. They have 3 championships in an 8 year span. The Rockets won it back to back in '94 & '95. The Mavericks? They were 2 wins away last season from getting their first one. The Spurs have had and ALWAYS will get their respect. Before Mark Cuban, took over the team, it seemed like every team (including the Spurs) marked the Mavs down as a "easy 'w'" on the schedule. Nowadays, that's not the case. They're on the verge of doing something monumental. After losing their first 4 games, they've had 3 unprecedented winning streaks of 12 games or more, with the current streak showing no signs of stopping, let alone slowing down. So the real question should be are people finally respecting the Mavericks instead of why don't the spurs get respect

Who doesn't respect the Spurs?
Every team in the league, no matter WHO they are, respects the Spurs because they are the most well rounded, balanced, and fundamentally sound team in the league. They have every aspect of the game covered, and every position filled with high caliber players.
Only a fool wouldn't respect San Antonio. They have the ability to beat any team out there.

because the mavs are having a season for the ages. but i dont think the spurs mind being under the radar as long as they are winning. they're still be the team to beat in the playoffs, and they'll be the one to send the mavs home crying. then dirk would be saying that they just let the spurs win. haha

edit..to judge ghis, the last statement was just a joke.

Because they are a very good team in a conference with two teams that are playing absolutely AMAZINGLY! A really good hamburger only seems really good when it's not sitting next to filet mignon. However, as good as the Suns and the Mavs have been, I don't think either of them would WANT to have to deal with the Spurs in a series either.

I respect the spurs, they are a well run team that have been good for a long time. and these peeps on here that say they are no good any more? guess they don't realize they are on a 10 game winning streak right now. & have a good record. this is coming from a die-hard pistons fan.

because the nba is a product that david stern is trying to sell,
instead of promoting players that live and die for the game like veterans of the spurs or allen iverson, the focus is put on gimmick players which are easier to control.
For Example: Vince Carter, who's career was stunted by being forced to dribble around until he found an opening to dunk
Dirk Nowitzki, who is allowed to dribble around until he finds a shot that's far enough away to impress the casual fan, his playmaking consists of passing the ball when there is less than 3 seconds left on the shot clock

thesavageworm said it better than I would have been able to, but then went even further.

My disagreements:

1. I believe Dallas will win the NBA Championship this year.
2. If Dallas doesn't win, Dirk won't open his mouth to say they let another team beat them a second time.
