Obviously it wasn't because of WMD. Kindergartners know that.
Obviously it wasn't because of 9/11. They had nothing to do with that.
Obviously it wasn't to liberate people - they hate each other and there's many "bad" rulers.

Long story short, what will be the "officiail" reason that we tell our children that all these soldiers died for?

Same thing we learn about Vietnam: There is no good reason.

We're attacked by Saudi's, then "liberate" Afghanistan and Iraq. Makes PERFECT sense. Right??!!!

Bush single handedly convinced our legislators and our citizens that we HAD to invade Iraq to protect ourselves from terrorists. We would have upped security measures and kept watchful eyes on more terrorist cells just because of 9/11.

We didn't NEED to invade Iraq. 3000+ kids lost for no good reason.

No war in Iraq, no new world order.

The war in Iraq and 9-11 would have happened no matter if it was a Republican or Democrat President. Just easier to get a Republican to do it since most people think they are warmongers.

Our wonderful public education at work here.

Yes, WMD's were found but you refuse to accept it and the media put it on the back burner and refuse to report it.

Saddam was a madman and I guess you would prefer him killing thousands more of his people and the ones around him.

Saddam's violation of cease fire agreement that ended 1991 gulf war. Saddams continued violation of UN security councils resolutions. Bush's Utopian liberalism that hungers for global democracy

i know this is hard for you to understand, but, ill try...we are at war with islamic extremists. those islamic extremists have only one goal, to destroy western civilization and re-establish an islamic caliphate that will eventually envelope the entire earth and all people on this planet will have to convert to islam or die. that is their STATED goal. now, in order to prevent this from happening and because no former president or administration dealt effectively with this problem, president bush deserves much credit. the reasons for going into iraq are many and include such things as saddam funding, equipping, training, and providing safe harbor to terrorist groups like al-queda. also, he WAS a threat not only to this nation but to all those around him. he was actively trying to develop a nuclear weapons program and would have used that to destabilize the region. this has been definitively proven despite what you read and hear in the biased media. hussein was a brutal dictator responsible for the murder of hundreds of thousands of his own citizens using chemical and biological weapons. all sixteen u.s. intelligence services as well as the intelligences services of isreal, france, russia, china, and great britain ALL agreed he had wmd and would not hesitate to use them. many leaders of this country including bill and hillary clinton, john kerry, nancy pelosi and a host of other so-called democrat leaders made impassioned speeches warning of the dangers of letting saddam continue to defy u.n. resolution after u.n. resolution, there were 17 in all, each one capable of triggering war. saddam shot at u.s. fighter jets over the northern and southern no fly zones each and every day, also an act of war while continuing to ignore u.n. demands for weapons inspections. all these reasons were laid out in the final resolution agreed upon by the u.n and funded by congress to remove saddam from power. going into iraq was essentially killing two birds with one stone. it allowed us to remove a madman from our midst and also provided a base of operation from which to fight the war on islamic extremists...think of iraq as a roach motel for terrorists...they check in, but they dont check out...a brilliant strategy if you ask me an one that is working more or less as designed...the only problem i have with bush's strategy is, he finds it necessary to couch his reasoning into packets of information pallatable to liberals; he is forced to fight a politically correct war which, in my opinion, has resulted in far too many unnecessary casualties instead of doing what is required to win any war...total destruction of the enemy's ability to wage war. i think he has finally decided to ignore the naive, misguided leftists and do the right thing by changing strategy. my guess is that this will work but well see. so, to sum up, we are in iraq fighting there so that for the time being, we are not fighting here. as far as an "official" reason for this war, call it the battle for our way of life and the protection of western civilization.

Had nothing to do with 9/11, only allowing terrorists to train there so they could be used as a weapon against us. There were WMDs found, a lot of them had been moved. To bring democracy to a tyrannical region.
