to the dumb comment i myself am a sicilian so think about what youre saying and you have no idea what youre talking about im looking for answers not the bs you are coughing up she is also dating a italian guy who is fine with her wanting to write one it is a free country its a fiction book so she is qualified if you read alot of books depict italians/sicilians as no good hoods and if someone is showing other groups commit crimes to im all for it a few bad apples dont ruin the barrel

Nobody cares what an author looks like. If it's fiction, the only requirement is that it's a good read.
Your amica should look at the book "2006 Fiction and Short Story Writer's Market" or "Fiction Writer's Market" to learn more about how to get a book published.

Your friend is not qualified to write a book about the mafia, and it has nothing to do with the color of her skin. She obviously has never actually read any books on the subject, because if she did she would know most authors of such novels are not Italian. If she was actually researching her subject matter and reading similar novels, she would know that the majority of these books are not written by folks of any particular race.

And yes, from the manner of the post I would say you and/or your friend do have some issues with race yourself. I'm going to rewrite your post and illustrate it to you:
=======================
would you buy a really good gang fiction book if the author was white?

I'd buy any book I thought was going to be a good read. The color of the author has nothing to do with it. There have been many great black authors, and still are. If the story's good, even racists see past the color of the writer

#1 Racisim should NEVER be an issue
#2 You mentioned having your friend emailing it to you for others to read, I would love to take you up on the offer
#3 I have to wonder why your asking the question and not your "friend", I love to read... anything and everything, my Husband says the only time he can talk to me whilst enjoying a book is when I come up for air. A good book is a good book, and a good book is writen by a good author, wheather the author is pink, blue, black, white, multi striped colors, just tell your friend to enjoy writing, and forget other peoples narrow minded issues

I do not judge a book on the race of the author. I judge a book on the quality of the writing.

That said, I'm not interested in reading about the mafia.

I have no idea what colour the authors of most of the books I read are - nor am I particularly interested.

I'm not bothered what nationality they are, what religion they are, or what star sign.

All that matters is whether the writing is good or not.

I've read a lot of really good books in my life (so far) and honestly I usually don't even remember the name of the author let alone the color of his skin.

Sure. It'd be refreshing to see one that doesn't stereotype all the Italian chracters as no-good mafiosi for a change.

Well it's not my preference on books but if someone recommended ot to me I'd consider. I wouldn't really care what race the author is. It doesn't matter...does it?

I would read it. The person who writes the book isn't important. It's the book that is important.
