Some people are just ignorant..........no other excuse. Other people feel that it makes them the bigger (or more noticed) person if they flagrantly ignore signs, laws etc. I like to think I have taught my kids to stand up for those things/people that might need help around them. If you try to ignore the wrong thing and say "It's none of my business" then you are just one of the silent majority and this just eats away at your soul. It is very very hard to stand up when the other people say nothing, but in the long run you know you have done the right thing and you can go home and sleep at night with nothing on your conscience.:)

I think many times when someone is doing something "wrong" it's either not our place to fix it or we have no power to fix it.
If I see someone throw trash in the road what am I going to do,
chase them down and make them pick it up? I don't think so
And on a larger scale, for example I think that non custodial fathers are treated like common criminals when they walk into a court room and believe me it infuriates me but there is nothing I can do to fix it.
Don't let every little thing become huge, choose your battles and relax.

I usually say something if it's an atrocity. I saw a man abuse his son in a shopping area once and I asked security to escort me to him and we told him, very kindly, that what he was doing was wrong. He picked up his son and left a bit embarrased, but I hope that he at least heard another view point and may think before he does it again. I also saw a little girl crying by herself once in an amusement park with adults just walking by her. I stopped and asked her if she was OK and she said that she'd lost her mom and I took her to lost and found. It's amazing what people will ignore isn't it?

May be they feel that they are not powerful or influential enough to correct a wrong thing. So instead of trying and getting embarrassed if they fail; they rather choose not to take action on it at all.

Absolutely. Nobody cares. Whats the big deal? People suffer all the time, crimes are committed, natural disasters, whatever. As long as I am OK, why should I care?
Besides, it is wiser to avoid trouble, than risk causing it.

Fear, they are afraid that the person will turn on them and yell, pull out a knife or gun and harm them. Fear stops good people from stopping the petty bad stuff from happening. If we can't take care of stopping the small stuff the big stuff will be impossible.
