our culture is not allowed to be opinionated... we are supposed to tolerate everything. We must absorb it all. We need an outlet... and fat is the new black! You are sooo right. I am fat.. this trend is oppressive, the bashing and ridicule is hard to avoid sometimes since media is everywhere and opinions are plentiful. Perhaps next generation, tattoos and piercings are the new black-- who knows. I appreciate your observation!

Because there is an element of control over being fat that doesn't exist with other protected groups i.e. racial groups and the disabled.
There are no laws in the UK protecting people from discrimination on the basis of being fat (only age, race, sex including sexual orientation and disability), and quite right too, for the reason above.
I say, let people get as fat as they want. Yes they cost the NHS more, but they also die younger, saving on pensions. It's swings and roundabouts.

I would agree that although many types of people & conditions result in a drain on our society, the current trend & spotlight is on Fat!
Fat is asociated with negative personality traits like laziness, greediness, slowness, selfishness & non conformance. Because there are very few people in the public eye who demonstrate that is not always the case, most people beleive that being fat is a garauntee of being useless.
That doesn't mean that there aren't 24 stone lawyers, doctors & writers & vets who make a contribution to the world that well outstrips their "NHS debt" just that they are not in public view enough to destroy the stereotype.

Well it`s still allowed to bully people for there looks you can`t call someone a n11ger but you can say fat pig. This just shows that many people are horrid and vile and like to pick on people I got bullied as I was late developer and my voice hadn`t broke so I was called gay and had to fight people twice my size ironically I am now over 6ft and put one bully in hospital later on in life. I think the bottom line is this many people need to put others down because they are not happy with themselves or the way there own lives are.

Hmm, in the USA they had to knock a wall down, take a woman of immense proportions whose skin had metamorphised with the material on her sofa, and carry her to hospital in order to detach her from the sofa, she died. Seriously this is true..it happened the year before last I believe in Florida, it was in the Local Fort Pierce newspaper. I doubt very much if she was pregnant, but isn't it a statement of horror about the USA and how they allow people to get into such terrible social circumstances, and they are trying to preach democracy to the world. hahaha

I think the NHS actually said that it being fat and pregnant is bad for the mothers health and that they can do test on the baby and monitor it very well, through folds of flab.
Fair comment to me. Massively over weight people die younger, and cost us the tax payer more.
Why do I have to pay £4.50 a kilo for going over my airline baggage limit, when 18stone fatties fly at no extra cost???

Mainly because it's true. Prejudice is based on ill informed insults. Most of the reports I've heard regarding fat people being unfit, unable to contol thier eating habits and costing the state money are true.

Its not acceptable ... Its as offensive and degrading as racism but its deemed to be perfectly ok.
Everything is put down to weight these days! If a doctor can blame everything on your weight they will.
And they wonder why so many people suffer eating disorders?
