Im thinking of importing fashion jewellery from China to the UK, for re-sale here. Is there anybody that has done this before? Dealing with the re-sale here is not a problem its the Chinese side i am not sure about. How do i avoid getting ripped off etc. I aware of using Escrow, the 30% deposit upfront etc. But how do i get legitimate companies on my side?

from experience, you need to establish GOOD, and i mean GOOD contacts in the area.

My advice would be to STAY clear of CHINA in the beginning and use HK as a initial platform to build up your contacts and get a feel on how things work. You will GET ripped OFF, no doubt about it, but the way to go about it is to minimise your losses.

Attending trade fairs is a good idea to see whats on offer, but remember NEVER commit to anything at the stands! (that bit of advice may have saved you some money).

many people out there think its EASY as PIE to go and ship things in from China and Sell it here in UK. The truth is, IT AIN'T, otherwise we'd all be doing it.

Just be careful and research research and research.Cover ALL bases!

All the best.

ps. stay away from the alibaba.com kind of sites, they're all just one man bands or agents diguised as manufacturers, They in effect can just take your deposit and do a runner...THIS IS A WARNING!

Be careful what you are buying. Really you should visit the manufacterer over there. The Chinese have a knack of making junk glitter before you hand over the cash

I think it is best to go there to establish business contacts yourself, especially if you are dealing in large quantities.
