Okay - new terminology every generation.
Pete M - I was referring to the nickname of the person who used the word emo in their question, for goodness sake! Some characters just attack, without really thinking of possible explanations. A cynical but aggressive way to pick up points.

My daughter (aged 14) is one! She wears converse trainers, skinny jeans, black hoody tops and black eye liner. She listens to Fall Out Boy (which are ok) and some more hard core stuff that doesn't sound too good!! It seems to be that to be an emo you have to be self harming and hate the world, but she and her mates seem happy enough!

It's a style that's a bit Goth and a bit Mod. They're symbolized by wearing dark makeup (even the boys) and kind of wearing their sadness like a badge (thus the name emo which is short for emotional).
I had to ask a while back too and this was the best explanation I got.

ok, maximum "Emos" brag and boast approximately reducing themselves and in many situations seek for interest.. they achieve this by skill of reducing themselves, inflicting the great type of Emo to look pathetic and vulnerable and a gaggle of interest seekers.. It sounds like people are bullying you or maybe people who're no longer Emo could nonetheless be pushed to self injury by bullying. yet they're bullying you because of the fact they think of you're doing it for interest... subsequently you exaggerating being an "Emo" AND reducing blended, wont come accross nicely... See the vicious circle?? :( you could see a councilor to be certain your self injury situation.

Emo is a somewhat ambiguous, controversial slang term most frequently used to describe a fashion or subculture which is usually defined to have roots in punk fashion and subculture, as well as some attributes of gothic fashion and subculture.. It is loosely defined, and its meaning varies by region, but most definitions share a number of similarities.
